good read, good eats...

All She Ever Wanted by Lynn Austin
This is a very good book. How is that for a simple statement. If this was a book report for school I am sure I would get an F. But that is what it was, a good book. And there is nothing better on a rainy Sunday than a good book, right? Right. In a little more detail, it is the story of 4 generations of women who have all run from problems in their lives. It is about the relationships of mothers and daughters who due to lack of communication and not understanding one another have non-existent/broken relationships. It is Christian fiction. The time is early 1900s to present day. You should check it out! (literally, at your library like I did;))

Ohhh...side note. I get a call from my friend Beth that on the news the library that Preston and I just went to for story time that morning was evacuated because of a "shooter" (yes, that's what the news reporters were calling her, I am sure there is a more correct term than that but oh well.) who was threatening to shoot people in the library. It ended up being a homeless woman who didn't even have a gun, but still....a little unnerving.

Along, with this good book I recommend this good recipe- "Kates Risotto" I am not sure what the actual name of the recipe is but I always label my recipes with the person that I associate the dish with. This is from a mom I knew in Seattle and it is soooo good, but I must warn you , I don't think it is diet friendly:)

Kates Risotto
Saute 1 lb cubed chicken with olive oil and garlic (as much garlic as you like) set aside.

1 cup of arborio rice
4 T olive oil
4 T butter
1 large onion chopped
Garlic (again, as much as you like)
4-5 cups of chicken broth (have this simmering on the stove)
1/2 cup of dry white wind-the cheap stuff works just fine.
1 cup of sliced mushrooms
3/4 cup of Parmesan cheese

Saute onion and garlic in the olive oil and half the butter. Onion should be soft and translucent. Add the risotto and cook over medium heat. Start adding half a cup of chicken broth, slowly stirring until it is absorbed. Continue doing this. After about 20 minutes add the wine, stirring constantly. Once the risotto is tender add the mushrooms, (keep stirring-turn heat to low) add the chicken, the Parmesan cheese and the rest of the butter. Mix well. Enjoy!
This tastes even better the next day.

  1. Yum, I'm going to have to try that. I also want to try the Thai soup that you posted to Amy's blog once... My little brother Steven loves Thai food, so I think I'll make it when he and his wife come in town.
The book sounds good too, I could really use a few good reads, for the rainy days and all the sleepless nights as well.
And yeah, kinda freaky about the homeless shooter lady... sheesh. Did that happen the same day that you and Preston had gone?
