encouragement

Good morning friends! Today I wanted to share with you a little bit about my vision for The Best Nesst and talk about encouragement.

I started, what would later be known as The Best Nesst in April 2008. Basically it started out of boredom, I was a stay at home mom to my son who was 4 months old at the time. Then, I found out that there was a need, a need for cards with bible verses on them. Any not just any cards, but cute cards, with cutesy paper that people would be proud to display in their homes and not just throw them away. This was also a time when I needed encouragement, because what new mom doesn't? Not that I necessarily needed people to pat me on the back and say, "way to go!" but I would seek encouragement through Gods word. The passage I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me was something I repeated often throughout the day and throughout the night as I got up again to soothe my crying baby or to nurse him. I held on to the promise of this verse for dear life carefully noting that it didn't say that I can do all things only when I've had 8 hours of sleep. No, it was a straight forward promise, that I could and would get through this blissful but hard stage of being a new mom. I gleaning the bible for promises that God has made.

God has really put it on my heart to use His word and my gifts to encourage others. This is something that I have not mastered be any means and I am realizing that it must be intentional. Meaning it isn't always something that comes up in the normal course of the day-but I have to work it in.

Something else that God has really laid on my heart-is that encouraging one another starts at home. I was reminded of this by my husband. It was one of those times when life was just busy-we were both busy, he would work all day then come home and do projects on the house-and I was just too busy in my own little world, when one night he said, "honey, you make such a big deal about encouraging others, but yet you don't encourage me." Ouch. After I pulled the knife out of my heart I realized that this is a big part of his love language!

I just want you challenge you to encourage someone, whether it is your husband, children, co-worker, neighbor-be creative and intentional about this. God commands it, and we need it.

This is also I started my doing my encouragement cards, {you can read about it on my side bar and sign up by emailing me} I send people cards for free, with an encouraging bible verse on them. I think about the world we live in and how so often women tear each other down with gossiping etc. Ladies lets build each other up-Let's encourage one another! What better way to show encouragement than through the word of God-the bible is filled with promises and hope.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this and how you encourage others and how you like to be encouraged.

I will start.

I am encouraged through words of affirmation, such as "honey, the house looks great!"

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  2. When I was in college my friends and I would write cards and notes of encouragement to one another all of the time. I have two big bundles put away that I re-read every few years. Also during that time I went to a church that, in the back of the pews, were Encouragement Cards. They were free postcards that you could fill out for friends or family and the church would mail them. I have a stack of these I received too. Over the last few months I have been thinking about those words of encouragement and how much they meant to me then...and how much I need it now! Over the past few months {ok, years} it has slowly dawned on me that this has been missing. Your blog came along and helped it come into focus even more: I need to pick up a pen and encourage my friends. Thanks Ness!

  3. Just found your blog through Amy's (Love Notes) and I think that what you're doing is great. Lately I've been asking the Lord to show me some ways that I can serve Him by reaching out to other people. I love the idea of sending homemade cards to thank, encourage, and uplift others. I'll definitely check out the ones you make and maybe even try some of my own. Blessings!
