German Burger Recipe

I've had a few people ask me for this recipe, so I decided to post it. It is a family favorite!

German Burgers
Yeast Mixture-make first and set aside.
2 T warm water
1 package of yeast (if you buy yeast in a jar it is 2 1/4 teaspoons)
1/2 t sugar

Dough mixture
3 c flour
2 T sugar
1 t salt
3/4 + 2T of scalded milk
2T shortening
1 egg slightly beaten

Pour scalded milk over shortening and let cool.

In bread machine (or I use my kitchenaid mixer and cover my dough and let it rise for about a half hour) add flour, sugar, salt, shortening scalded by milk and egg and yeast mixture)

Filling
1/2 pound of hamburger
1/2 head of cabbage
1/2 onion

Cook hamburger, drain fat. Add cabbage and onion. Cook until soft. Set aside.

Roll out dough. Cut into squares. Add spoonful of filling. pinch top right corner and bottom left corner together and top left corner and bottom right corner together. Place in greased 9X13 pan and cook at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

These freeze great! I usually double this recipe and freeze a batch. They are so convenient for Dave to pull out a couple for lunch.

Let me know if you make them and how they turn out!
