pink! pink! pink!

Today at my 14 week OB appointment-I was surprised when my doctor offered to see if she could sneak me in for a quick gender ultrasound. I had no idea they could tell the sex this early on in the pregnancy, but I guess they can tell from 13 weeks on.

I already had a feeling that it was a girl so did a lot of people, even preston has been calling it his little sister since we told him he was going to be a big brother. It was so fun to see her, I could see her swallowing and opening her mouth and waving and moving all over the place.  It's a fun reminder that 'hey! there actually is someone in there!'

I can't tell you how glad I am to be done with the first trimester! It was pretty horrible. I felt like I had so much going against me. Dave working out of town, playing single mom while feeling sick and tired and then the fact that my first trimester fell in december, january an february-the bleakest of months. The days got so long-but that is all behind me now. I am feeling better, not as tired anymore and spring is just around the corner. I don't think I could have been more excited for march to arrive, even if it is still snowy outside. Mentally I felt like I can put the last 3 months behind me and move on!

This summer will be so memorable with the arrival of 2 new babies!
Benjamin and baby Grace.

(I'm pretty sure, we are going with Grace Taylor, but I have to write it out and say it out loud for a while to test it;)

  1. We are still woo hoo'ing at our house about the news! It is so exciting. Ahh, a girl...now don't get me wrong...we would have been extremely excited if it was a boy too! I just keep thinking of all the girl stuff I can pass along to you (and remove from my house :)). With 4 girls over here, I'm thinking we could set you up for life! :) Woo hoo!

  6. Congrats! A girl will be so fun!!! And like everyone else, I think Grace is such a beautiful name. =)

So at this stage, how did they tell it was a girl? Do they have new equipment, or were they able to look for a little uterus or something? Forgive me if I'm overcurious, I'm pursuing a degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and this has just really peaked my interest. :)

You are lucky they've come up with an accurate way to tell, since at 14 weeks when I was pregnant with Deacon, the doctor told me he had learned how to tell the gender that early, and told me Deacon was a girl. Then when I had an ultrasound again at 20 weeks, (and after buying a few too many cute girl items) they said, "um, actually, we see boy parts." I was like, "what!?" but of course still thrilled.

But anyway, if you wouldn't mind and you get a minute, will you fill me in? That is just so cool! Congratulations Ness! She is going to be sooo beautiful. :)

  7. I'm not sure Steph-I was told they could tell at 13 weeks. It's just that the 'big' ultrasound is done at 18 or 20 weeks and they just find out the sex then. (most insurace probably wouldn't cover a gender only u/s)

My drs office does have ultrasound techs in it-so it's not the drs who are looking-so maybe they are more skilled???

I was pleasantly surprised to find out since I wasn't expecting to know yet for another month!!
