My Own Worst Enemy-How to Stop Holding Yourself Back, by Janet Davis.

I didn't remember signing up to review this book, I was expecting a fictional book to arrive in the mail and was a little disappointed when I saw I would be reviewing a devotional book, as I've been more in the mood for light, easy reading lately.

But.....I was wrong, so very wrong!

Ask yourself this question:

Have you ever wanted to do something, perhaps something that required you step out of your comfort zone-knowing deep down that you would be good at it only to find yourself walking away, saying no because you feel like you would fail miserably or perhaps you find yourself saying why would God use someone like me? I have found myself in that situation quite a few times-those situations have self sabotage written all over them.

If so, than this is the book for you! I feel like Janet Davis wrote it just for me. It flowed marvelously and was an easy read at 250 pages. I read it with pen in hand and underlined and made notes and tried to absorb every little detail, every story, every scripture. It will be a book that I read over and over.

This book is based largely on the scripture, Matthew 5:14-16
You are the light of the world....let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

She goes on to talk about how a lot of women confuse letting their light shine or using their God given talents and gifts with being prideful, in fact we are called to shine and hiding our gifts is not humility.

This book is divided into 3 sections, 13 chapters total. Davis shares her own personal story as well as those of other women she knows and the stories of women in the bible. At the end of each chapter are study questions, questions that really get you thinking! This book would be so good to read with a group of ladies but it is also good solo and the questions make great journaling prompts.

If you are looking for an encouraging book to read, look no further, I highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed!

After reading this book I am encouraged to find out how to use my gifts to shine for God, I am excited to step out of my comfort zone and see what God has for me!

You can get your copy here. It's available in both book format and kindle edition.

I was given this book to review by Bethany House Publishers at no cost in exchange for my honest opinion.
